9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL, with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton and book by Patricia Resnick, is based on the 1980 hit movie Nine to Five.

Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call their boss. They conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do -- even in a man's world. Set in the late 1970s, 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL is a hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. Outrageous, thought-provoking, and even a little romantic, 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL is about teaming up and taking care of business.

No Fish in the House

No Fish In The House
A Special Performance by Commedia De Lazzi Players

Friday, July 19th at 7:00pm

Adults: $5, Kids: $3

General Admission tickets on sale July 8

No Fish in the House is a mad capped comedy in the lunatic Italian tradition of the Commedia dell’arte. Follow the Commedia De Lazzi players, lead by legendary dramatist Tony Bologna, as they rehearse their new play, No Fish in the House, only to discover, “there’s no fish!” Filled with slapstick humor, impromptu operations, and flying tiger sponges, No Fish in the House is a fun-filled romp for the whole family. The humorous and witty play, written by Tom Willmorth, was actually created for a child audience, but has delighted children and adults alike.

The comic romp features four professional actors who play a variety of roles while wearing leather masks in the Commedia dell’arte style. The actors perform onstage as well as in the aisles, interacting with the audience and getting the children involved and taking an active role in the show. Numerous fun props are also used to help tell the fishy story.

No Fish in the House is directed by UI Theatre faculty member Paul Kalina, himself no stranger to the roles in the play. Kalina, who is a graduate of the Dell Arte School of Physical Theatre and received his MFA in directing from the University of Idaho, actually performed as an actor in No Fish in the House with the Idaho Theatre for Youth in the early 1990’s. Focused on movement, physical theatre, and professional clowning, Kalina is a founding member of the Chicago physical theatre company 500 Clown and co-created the clown duo Le Pamplemousse and the critically acclaimed clown acrobatic duo, The Bumblinni Brothers.

This touring production is sponsored and made possible by the support and collaboration of several University of Iowa entities, including a Better Futures for Iowans grant, Office of the Provost, Office of Summer Session, Office of the Vice President for Research, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Division of Performing Arts, Department of Theatre Arts, and Arts Share. The Better Futures for Iowans grant from the University of Iowa Office of the Provost supports outreach projects that address a goal of the University’s strategic plan: to provide better futures for Iowans by improving the lives of Iowans in areas such as health, education, the Arts and the Iowa economy. Arts Share continues the UI’s long tradition of sharing creative resources. Arts Share’s goal is to strengthen the arts in underserved areas, reaching out to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa.
